Smooth basalt stones, warmed to an even temperature, are used to add the benefits of heat to your massage. Warmth promotes deep tissue relaxation - this is a wonderfully soothing treatment for aching muscles, tiredness and tension.
Thermotherapy or Thermalism uses temperature changes to encourage your body's natural reflexes ~ it's well known that heat improves muscle flexibilty, opens the pores and promotes detoxification. Cold, by contrast, tightens the skin and decongests a sluggish system. Depending on your needs, your therapist may alternate heated stones with chilled ones for an overall health benefit.
We use basalt stones because of their smoothness and dense composition: they retain the heat evenly, ensuring you don't suffer any unexpected hot spots!
This is a deep-tissue massage but, thanks to the weight and warmth of the stones, your therapist can achieve powerful results with smooth, steady strokes that don't 'dig'. If your body is very tense due to stress or postural problems, hot stone treatment can work wonders where Swedish massage may feel painful.
